The Sip and Style Social Event
Style nights are one of my favorites. Not everyone is going to hire a personal stylist but anyone can use a little inspiration and further knowledge around the clothes they're wearing. It has become a really exciting forum to share new style perspective, demonstrate those style nuances that make an outfit your own and answer questions real-time for so many women. As someone who is not a huge fan of public speaking, it feels so natural and fun to get up in front of a group and help make style a little more accessible to everyone!
For this particular Style Night, I partnered with my sweet friend, Elizabeth Bricknell, who is an ambassador for Noonday Collection, a globally inspired, fair trade company creating opportunities around the world through fashion and accessories. The focus of the event was to show several fun, easy looks to ensure an epically stylish summer. I put together 6 complete looks and had 3 clients model each outfit as I talked about silhouettes that work well, how to style the clothes you wear and the art of perfect layering in warmer weather. Elizabeth had set up a table piled high with incredible pieces from Noonday Collection which I drew from to put the finishing touch on each outfit. To really bring everything home, Elizabeth was there to talk about where and how the jewelry was made and share stories of the individual artisans and the specific elements that went into each unique piece.
Thankfully we found the most perfect space to host our evening of style. We all gathered at the endlessly popular donut shop, Pip’s, in North Portland, which transforms into a sweet, magical, intimate and moody space after hours. The whole evening was made even more perfect with the impeccable food creations by Jamie of The Lambs Table. She whipped up fresh asparagus spears, homemade rosemary crackers with the creamiest of cheeses, fresh, seasonal fruit, lavender shortbread, almond brittle and paired it all with the perfect selection of wines. As women gathered, grabbed a glass of wine and a few treats, they were able to peruse all the one-of-kind, gorgeous jewelry, bags and scarves from Noonday Collection.
We kicked things off by introducing ourselves and both Elizabeth and I each shared a bit about our individual journeys around our businesses and the mission driving us. Then we started right into the fresh new looks for summer and the trends to jump on board with. Besides being able to share about something I love and am so passionate about and watch women light up with new inspiration, the most fun moments of the evening, for me, were had watching my models come out in the outfits (their own clothes) and walk with such ease and confidence and take their own, unprompted turns on the ‘catwalk’. It was truly a demonstration of how the clothes we wear and our awareness in the clothes can give us freedom to be more fully ourselves. Dressing with thought and intention can help to fully align our external appearance with the amazing person within.
For me, the best gauge of the success of an evening like this is in the feedback of the attendees. It was incredible to hear the immediate reactions of so many who were inspired to go right home and evaluate their own closets with fresh eyes. Some were even making strategic shopping lists, as a result of the outfit examples, for their own summer wardrobe purchases. During the weeks following the event, I continued receiving selfies from women as they excitedly and confidently implemented some new styles into their repertoire. There is nothing better than to be able to have such an impact and make people’s lives a bit easier, save a bit of money as you shop with direction and inspire others to have more fun with their own clothes! I honestly cannot wait for the next one!
A HUGE thank you to Mallory Leasure for capturing the evening so beautifully!!
